Silk and Other Strings

Traditionally, fine pearls have been strung on silk. Other types of string - or even chain! - can be used as well.

What is a Pearl Knot?

Knotting is the most secure form of pearl stringing. The jeweler places knots in between each pearl. This keeps the pearls from scratching each other, and also ensures that if your strand  breaks, your pearls don't go flying all over the place!

What are Some Examples of Pearl Design?

There are so many ways to wear your pearls! A graduated design means stringing your pearls from largest to smallest, usually starting at the very front and working outwards to the clasps. You can also include tassels, turn your pearls into multiple strands, incorporate metal spacers and beadwork - there are so many options.

Pearl Restringing

A Service from A&J Jewelers

Did you know that pearls need periodic restringing to keep them safe and looking like new? There is a special skill and talent to restringing pearls - they're not just beads on a string! Let our AGS Certified professionals restring your pearls to make sure that your precious strands will last forever.

Prevent Pearl Loss

Quality pearls are strung on fine silk strands. Over time, those strands weaken and stretch. If you wear your pearls often, they should be restrung yearly. Pearls worn less often should be restrung every 2-3 years.

Redesign!

Pearl looks change from time to time. Restringing your pearls can also give you the opportunity to create a fresh look! Your pearls are an elegant and timless addition to your jewelry wardrobe - we want you to wear them!

Time and Cost

Both the amount of time needed to restring your pearls and the cost depend on the length of your strand and if you want a redesign. In general, pearl restringing is very economical. Bring us your pearls and let us give you a quote!
