A Jeweler's Tools

Many of the tools jewelers use today are the same as or very similar to the tools jewelers used in medieval times. Today, we've incorporated exciting technology like 3D design, laser welding, and 3D growing, but some tasks simply must be done by hand,  in the old ways.

Modes of Design

Creating a custom jewel for you is truly a collaborative process. You bring your ideas and your aesthetic, we contribute our skills and our knowledge of how metal and gemstones function. Together, the project comes to life.

Design Tools

The creation of a custom jewel takes time. There will be time spent during our discussions and discovery. Time spent while we turn our ideas into 3D design that you can see and hold. And time spent while the jeweler make the final piece. And all that wait will be worth it!

Custom Jewelry

A Service from A&J Jewelers

For centuries, jewelry was created one piece at a time, for one person at a time. We still like to make jewelry that way. Our designers, artisans, and setters will help you create something that nobody else in this world has - something you can hand down for generations.

We Begin

Every piece of jewelry begins with a story. What is the memory, event, or milestone that brought you to this moment? We'll explore these ideas with you, and that will be the beginning of your custom jewel.

Design

We might start by sketching or putting together a mini-idea board, but once your design is clear, we will create a 3D virtual CAD drawing. Then we will print a wax model for you to approve.

Production

Finally, the artisan work begins. We will cast and form your metals, match and set gemstones, then polish and finish your piece to perfection. You will have a jewel like no other.

How much does custom jewelry cost?
Well, that depends on the materials you choose and the complexity of the project, but it's a lot more affordable than you may realize. The best thing to do is let us know what you want, and we'll give you a quote. Asking that question and getting an answer is free though!
How does it work?
We start by discussing the design you want. We may make some sketches or look at pictures or designs together. Then, we make a CAD design, and review that with you. After you're happy with the CAD design, we may make a model (it sort of depends on what type of jewelry we're making for you). Then, we take your approved design and create it using precious metals, gemstones, and a lot of skill.
Do you require a deposit?
We do ask for a $300 deposit, but it's entirely applicable against the final purchase. We do this to protect ourselves during the design phase. We spend a lot of hours creating a design you will love, and if you don't decide to purchase a custom jewel when we're done, then at least our time has been compensated for. But what we really want to do is make the jewelry for you! So that $300 is applied against the final price of the jewel in the end.
How much time does it take?
It depends a bit on the complexity of your design. If you want something that requires hand-carving and lots of fabrication, then it could take longer. But most custom designs are created within 3-4 weeks after final design approval.
Are custom designs returnable?
No, they're not. You'll have final approval of the design before we make the item. But once we make it, it will be made entirely to your specifications, sizes, and taste. That's not something we can sell out of the cases, so it's yours forever.
